Johnny McIlwain II, 33, of Charlotte, North Carolina,
passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026,
surrounded by those who loved him. Born on December 16,
1992, in Charlotte, he was the beloved son of Tangela B.
McIlwain and Johnny McIlwain Sr.
Affectionately known as LJ, he graduated from South Point
High School in Belmont, NC, in 2012. In March 2022, he proudly
earned his A&P Certification as a trained technician. LJ
worked with exceptional skill and precision as an Airframe
and Powerplant Professional at The Boeing Company, where
he assembled and aligned commercial aircraft doors. During
his two years and eight months with Boeing, he was admired
for his meticulous attention to detail and his unwavering
commitment to teamwork.
LJ had a joyful spirit and a wide range of interests. He loved
fishing, swimming, playing video games, going to the beach,
and spending meaningful time with his sons and family. From
a young age, he enjoyed running track, and he remained an
avid sports fan throughout his life. His favorite football team
was the Baltimore Ravens. He will be remembered for his
humor, generosity, and the warmth he brought to every
room.
LJ leaves behind his two sons, Alias McIlwain and London
McIlwain, and his bonus daughter, Dakota Miller. He is also
survived by his mother, Tangela B. McIlwain; his father, Johnny
McIlwain Sr., and bonus mom, LaTonya McIlwain; his sister,
Aliya Givens; and bonus sister, Laila Johnson. He is further
cherished by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special
friends, including Graciela Flores and Jacqueline Edwards.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Atrium Health
Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute, the Intensive Care Unit,
The Boeing Company, and all family and friends for their
compassionate support during this difficult time.
