Phillip Ray Smith

Mr. Phillip Ray "Tattoo" Smith 65 of Kannapolis, NC departed this life on November 1, 2021 in Kannapolis NC.

He was born October 8, 1956 to the late Willie Albert Smith and the late Barbara Jean Grant Smith.  Phillip Ray was educated in the Cabarrus County Schools.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corp.  He later wanted to continue his training and education, so he decided to join the Job Corps in Greenville, KY.  While there he met and married Beverly Willis.

Phillip Ray would always remind us that he was the first child, grandchild, great-grandchild and the first of the Nook boys.  Phillip Ray grew up on Little Texas Rd as Big Nook and for the last twenty-five years he resided in the Rose Hill area as Tattoo or Uncle Ta.

Those left to cherish his memories include his three children Kendra Rae Smith, Phillip Lee Smith and Phelan Lee Smith all of Greenville KY; four grandchildren; five brothers Willie Eric Smith Sr (Lisa) of Concord, NC, Otis Smith Jr. of Brooklyn NY, Ricky DeWitt Smith (Nancy) of Myrtle Beach, SC, William DeWitt Smith (Pam) and Basim Kamil of Bridgeport, CT; two sisters Valencia Smith of Brooklyn, NY, Janet DeWitt-Diaz of Bridgeport, CT; Aunts, Carol M Torrence of Concord, NC, Patricia A Clowney and Sharon E Nesbit of Kannapolis, NC, Jacqueline M Grant of Greensboro, NC and Uncle Keith B Grant (Coretta) Concord, NC and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
